An AI interviewer runs a job interview as a conversation: it asks your questions, follows up when an answer is vague, answers the candidate's questions and explains the next steps. With Talking Avatar Realistic Avatars voice agents, you build one from the Screening interviewer template, give it a photorealistic face and a voice, and send candidates a link. It doesn't score candidates or make hiring decisions: your team reads the transcripts and decides. A 15-minute interview costs $0.90.

Who it's for

For first rounds that take too much of your calendar

  • Recruiting teams and agencies

First-round screens for roles with many applicants, held whenever candidates are free, with the same questions for everyone.

  • Startups without a recruiter

Hiring managers get a consistent first conversation with every applicant, without blocking out afternoons for screening calls.

  • High-volume hiring

Customer service, sales and retail roles where hundreds apply: every candidate gets an interview, not just the first few CVs.

  • Career centres and bootcamps

Mock interviews so students practise answering out loud, as many times as they like, before the real thing.

How it works

From job description to live interviewer in an afternoon

  1. 1

Start from the Screening interviewer template

It runs a first round out of the box: it explains the format, asks your questions in order with one short follow-up when an answer is vague, then takes the candidate's questions and explains the next steps. Interviews last up to 30 minutes by default.

  2. 2

Add the role and your questions

Write the role, your questions and what happens next, up to 20,000 characters. Add a line asking for the candidate's name and email at the start, so each transcript matches an application. Pick a realistic avatar and a voice.

  3. 3

    Send candidates the link

Put the interview link in your invitation email or on your careers page, or embed it in your application flow with an iframe. Every transcript lands in your dashboard, and a post-call webhook can send it to your own system.

# Role & Objective
You are Daniel, an interviewer at Acme, running a first-round
screening interview for the Customer Success Manager role.

# Interview flow
1. Ask for their full name and the email they applied with.
2. Explain the format: about 15 minutes, five questions,
   then time for theirs.
3. Ask the questions below in order, one at a time.

# Questions
1. Tell me about your current role.
2. Describe a time you turned around an unhappy customer.
3. How do you prioritise when ten customers need you at once?

What candidates and recruiters get

A structured interview that still feels like a conversation

  • The same questions, in the same order

Every candidate answers the questions you wrote, in your order, so their answers are easy to compare.

  • Follow-ups when an answer is vague

It asks one short follow-up, the way a recruiter would, then moves on to the next question.

  • Neutral and patient

It never signals whether an answer was good, never discusses salary and never promises an outcome. Patient turn-taking waits for candidates to finish their thought.

  • Answers the candidate's questions

About the role, the team and what happens next, from the facts you give it. Anything else, it says your recruiting team will follow up.

  • A transcript of every interview

Each one is kept with how long it lasted and why it ended. A post-call webhook can send every transcript to your own system as soon as the interview ends.

  • Your interviewer, your brand

Name it after your company. Use a custom avatar of your own recruiter for a one-time $199, and remove the "Powered by Talking Avatar" label for $19 a month.

In real hiring

InterviewFlowAI interviews candidates with these avatars

InterviewFlowAI, the AI interview platform that built Talking Avatar, uses Talking Avatar Realistic Avatars for many of the interviews it runs with candidates: the realistic avatars you can pick here are the same ones its candidates talk to. If you want a complete AI interview platform rather than an interviewer you set up yourself, see InterviewFlowAI.

Compared

A live AI interview or a one-way video interview?

Both let candidates interview at any hour. In a one-way video interview, candidates record answers to prompts on a screen. An AI interviewer talks with them.

FAQ

AI interviewer questions

Interviewing is one of several things a voice agent can do. See all voice agent use cases.

What is an AI interviewer?

An AI interviewer is software that holds a job interview as a conversation: it asks questions, follows up, answers the candidate's questions and records what was said. A Talking Avatar interviewer does this live over video, with a photorealistic avatar that speaks every question.

Does the AI interviewer decide who gets hired?

No. It asks your questions and keeps a transcript of the answers. It doesn't score candidates or reject anyone. Your team reads the transcripts and decides who moves forward.

How do I know which candidate took an interview?

Ask for it: add a line to the instructions so the interviewer asks for the candidate's name and the email they applied with, and it's in the transcript. Give each role its own interviewer, so every interview link belongs to one job.

How is it different from a one-way video interview?

In a one-way video interview, candidates record answers to prompts with no one on the other side. An AI interviewer talks with them: it follows up when an answer is vague and answers their questions about the role.

Should candidates know they're talking to an AI?

Yes. Say so in the invitation and in the interviewer's greeting. Some places regulate AI in hiring, including Illinois and New York City, so check the rules where you hire before you start.

How much does an AI interview cost?

$0.06 a minute, billed per second, with the avatar, the voice and the AI included. A 15-minute interview costs $0.90 and a 30-minute one $1.80. There's no subscription and no fee per candidate.

Can it interview in other languages?

Yes. It replies in the language the candidate speaks, and you can tell it which language to use in its instructions. Voices and pronunciation vary by language, so make a test call in yours first.

Who uses Talking Avatar for interviews?

InterviewFlowAI, the AI interview platform behind Talking Avatar, runs many of its candidate interviews with these realistic avatars.

Can many candidates interview at the same time?

Yes. Each candidate talks to the interviewer in their own call. To protect your balance, each network can start 20 an hour and 60 a day calls with one interviewer. If many candidates will interview from one office or campus network, contact us first.
