7 Best D-ID Alternatives for Real-Time AI Agents in 2026, by Price

By Mukul Munjal, Founder, InterviewFlowAI Pricing verified 30 October 2026

Quick take

The best D-ID alternative depends on which part of D-ID you use. This page covers D-ID Agents and its streaming avatars; if you use D-ID to generate videos, compare video tools such as Synthesia, HeyGen or Colossyan instead. As of 30 October 2026, D-ID's self-serve API plans stop at 600 streaming minutes for $297 a month, about $0.50 a minute, with credits shared with video. Every option below costs less per minute. Anam and Tavus come closest on features, with knowledge bases and instant avatars from a photo. Voice Agents is the cheapest managed agent at $0.06 a minute, with custom avatars of real people for $199 one time. For a face on your own agent, Realistic Avatars ($0.02) and Simli (about $0.01 on a plan) cost least.

The 7 D-ID alternatives on this page, compared on price, limits and fit.

What is the best D-ID alternative?

For a no-code agent like D-ID's, Talking Avatar Voice Agents: $0.06 a minute with the avatar, LLM, speech recognition and voice included, against D-ID's $0.50–0.56 on monthly plans (as of 30 October 2026). To keep a knowledge base and instant photo avatars, Anam ($0.11–0.16 per extra minute) or Tavus. For a face on your own agent, Talking Avatar Realistic Avatars at $0.02 a minute, or Simli. Both Talking Avatar products take a custom avatar of a real person for $199 one time.

How we ranked these tools

We ranked real-time avatar products by how well each replaces D-ID Agents and its streaming avatars: cost at 600 and 10,000 minutes a month, whether it runs the conversation or only the face, knowledge base and memory, custom avatars, and published limits. Prices and features come from each vendor's pricing page and docs, checked on 30 October 2026; we haven't run paid trials. We built Talking Avatar and rank it first on price. If a knowledge base or instant photo avatars matter more to you than price, start at number 2.

Why teams look for alternatives to D-ID

About $0.50 a streaming minute
As of 30 October 2026, D-ID's API plans run from Build at $18 for 32 streaming minutes to Scale at $297 for 600. That's $0.495–0.5625 a minute billed monthly, or $0.35–0.45 billed annually.
Self-serve stops at 600 minutes
Scale's top tier is the largest self-serve plan, and D-ID publishes no overage or top-up price for its API plans. An agent that grows past 600 minutes a month needs an Enterprise quote.
Credits shared with video
The plans are sold in credits that D-ID's video and streaming products share. A streaming minute uses 2 credits and a video minute 4, so every video you render leaves fewer minutes for the agent.
Licenses and watermarks on smaller plans
The 14-day trial is watermarked. Build ($18) carries a personal license and the D-ID watermark, so commercial use starts on Launch at $50, whose plan card lists an "AI watermark". A custom logo needs Scale.
Limits that aren't published
D-ID doesn't publish concurrency or session length for streaming agents, so planning for a busy launch day means asking sales.

What to look for in an alternative

Managed agent or face only
D-ID Agents run speech, the LLM and the voice. If your backend already streams audio through echo sessions or ElevenLabs Agents, a face-only API is the cheaper like-for-like swap.
Knowledge and memory
D-ID searches your documents and remembers users. Tavus does both, Anam has a knowledge base, and HeyGen LiveAvatar has reference links and memory. Face-only APIs leave both to your agent.
Custom avatars
Most D-ID agents start from a photo. Anam, Tavus, Simli, LemonSlice and bitHuman make an avatar from one image; check how many each plan includes. Talking Avatar builds a custom avatar of a real person from a short video for $199 one time, with their consent.
Price past 600 minutes
Price your real monthly volume on the plan you'd buy, plus overage, and check its concurrency and call length. A low rate on a plan with 10-minute calls may not fit an interview or a lesson.

The best D-ID alternatives

  1. 1. Cheapest per minute, managed or face onlyOur product

    Talking Avatar

Two ways to replace D-ID Agents. Talking Avatar Voice Agents is a complete agent built from a prompt in our dashboard: a realistic avatar, a realtime AI model, speech recognition and a voice, with up to 20 tools that call your URLs, shared as a link or a one-line embed. Talking Avatar Realistic Avatars is the face alone for a voice agent you already run, streamed over WebRTC or into your LiveKit room.

    Why it fits here

    • Talking Avatar Voice Agents: avatar, realtime AI model, speech recognition and voice for $0.06 a minute, built from a prompt with no code
    • Talking Avatar Realistic Avatars: the face alone for your own voice agent, $0.02 a minute
    • Per-second billing from prepaid credits, with no plan and no monthly allowance to use or lose
    • Limits written down: no concurrency tiers, avatar sessions up to 3 hours, agent calls up to 60 minutes
    • Up to 20 HTTPS tools per agent, a transcript of every call and a signed post-call webhook

    Pros

    • 600 minutes a month cost $36 as Voice Agents calls, against $297 on D-ID Scale billed monthly
    • No ceiling: 10,000 minutes cost $600 at the same rate, where D-ID needs an Enterprise quote
    • Commercial use from the first credit, and $1 of free credits (16 minutes of Voice Agents)

Pricing: Voice Agents $0.06/min all in; Realistic Avatars $0.02/min; both billed per second from prepaid credits, no plan; $1 of free credits; enterprise avatar contracts from $0.005/min.

Best for: D-ID users who want a published per-minute price past 600 minutes, managed or face only.

  2. 2. Best like-for-like agent with a knowledge base

    Anam

Photoreal real-time avatars (Cara-4.1 Express, 1152×768 or portrait) whose persona runs speech recognition, an LLM and a voice in 70+ languages, searches your documents and calls tools. Avatars come from an image or a text prompt, unlimited on every plan. Your own agent can drive the face instead, at the same price.

Pricing: Free (30 min/month, 3-minute calls, non-commercial); Starter $12 to Professional $999/month for 50 to 8,000 min; extra $0.16 down to $0.11/min; billed per second; Enterprise from $0.04/min.

Best for: D-ID Agents users who want documents and photo avatars at well under half the per-minute price, with 2-hour calls from Growth ($299).

  3. 3. Best for many managed calls at once

    HeyGen LiveAvatar

HeyGen's real-time avatar service, which replaced its Interactive Avatar API on 31 March 2026. FULL mode runs speech, LLM and voice from a context (a prompt plus reference links) and can remember users across sessions; LITE renders the face from your own agent. Since 23 October 2026 an alpha endpoint makes an avatar from one image.

Pricing: Free (10 credits, watermark, 2-minute sessions); Essential $99 (1,100 credits) or Business $475 (6,000); FULL uses 2 credits a minute, LITE 1; extra credits $0.095 or $0.09.

Best for: High-concurrency deployments, and teams already on HeyGen.

  4. 4. Best for perception and memory

    Tavus

Conversational Video Interface: Raven-1 watches the user's camera, Sparrow-2 handles turn-taking and Phoenix-4.5 renders the Face at 1080p. Like D-ID agents, Tavus PALs search a knowledge base of your documents and keep memories of each participant. Faces come from one photo, two minutes of video or a text prompt.

    Pricing: Free (20 min/month); Starter $22 (60 min), Builder $59 (175), Growth $397 (1,300), Business $975 (4,000); extra $0.35 down to $0.26/min from Builder up; 30-second minimum per call.

Best for: Teams that want D-ID's knowledge base and memory plus camera perception, for less per minute.

    Tavus vs Talking Avatar →

  5. 5. Lowest price on a monthly plan, face only

    Simli

Face-only real-time video API (Trinity models) for your own voice agent, with LiveKit and Pipecat integrations; Simli Auto can run the whole conversation. Paid plans include custom avatars made from one photo (1, 5 or 25 a month), and Trinity-2 renders waist-up with hands.

    Pricing: $10 of credits at sign-up, then 50 free min/month; Hobby $10 (1,000 min), Pro $49 (5,500), Scale $249 (27,500); extra $0.01 to $0.009/min; at least 1 minute per session, then 5-second steps.

Best for: Teams with their own voice agent and steady volume on LiveKit or Pipecat.

    Simli vs Talking Avatar →

  6. 6. Best for animating any image, not just faces

    LemonSlice

Turns any single image, from a photo to a cartoon, mascot or animal, into a real-time avatar driven by your agent's audio through LiveKit, Pipecat, Agora or a WebSocket, with an optional hosted speech, LLM and voice pipeline. Every paid plan includes unlimited avatars.

Pricing: Starter $8 (41 min) to Ultra $960/month (6,000 min); extra $0.18–0.22/min; hosted voice +$0.09–0.11/min; idle time billed; calls above the plan's concurrency billed at 2x.

Best for: D-ID users who animate illustrations or brand characters rather than photos of people.

    LemonSlice vs Talking Avatar →

  7. 7. Best for native apps and on-device rendering

    bitHuman

Real-time avatars from one portrait (Essence 2 for photoreal faces, Expression 2 for any character) that render on the user's device, on your own servers or in bitHuman's cloud. Use it avatar-only with your own agent through LiveKit or Pipecat, or as a managed voice chat with speech, LLM and voice. SDKs cover Swift, Android, Flutter and Python.

Pricing: Creator $20/month (2,000 credits) to Enterprise $999 (250,000); avatar-only 2 credits/min on the device, 4 in the cloud; managed voice chat 10 credits/min; top-ups $1 per 100 credits; custom avatar $5 one time (Essence 2). Free accounts lost API access on 19 October 2026.

Best for: iOS, Android and kiosk apps, the job D-ID's LiveKit mobile SDKs do today.

Realistic Avatars and Open Source

The two versions of Talking Avatar

Talking Avatar comes in two separate versions. Talking Avatar Realistic Avatars is a hosted, paid service of ready-made photorealistic avatars, rendered on our servers and streamed to your page over WebRTC or into your LiveKit room, for $0.02 a minute. Talking Avatar Open Source is a free, MIT-licensed 3D talking avatar for the browser: it renders your own 3D .glb avatar and animates its face from any audio (lip sync from a 1 MB model, plus natural blinks and brows), with no server, account or API key, free for commercial and noncommercial use. Both are driven by your own voice agent: OpenAI Realtime, LiveKit, Pipecat or any TTS. No voice agent yet? Talking Avatar Voice Agents run the whole conversation on a realistic avatar, with no code, for $0.06 a minute.

Talking Avatar Realistic Avatars

$0.02 / min

Hosted, ready-made photorealistic avatars that speak your voice agent's audio in real time, with lip sync, natural expressions and subtle head motion. Rendered on our servers and streamed to your page over WebRTC or into your LiveKit room, from the Node.js SDK or a WebSocket API that works in any language.

  • $1 of free credits when you sign up
  • Billed per second, commercial use included
  • No subscription, setup fee or minimum
  • Sessions up to 3 hours each
  • Ready-made avatars; custom avatars $199 one time

Talking Avatar Open Source

Free

A 3D talking avatar that runs entirely in the user's browser: it renders your own 3D .glb avatar and animates its face from your agent's audio, with lip sync from a 1 MB model plus natural blinks and brows. No server, no API key, and the audio never leaves the page.

  • Free for commercial and noncommercial use (MIT)
  • npm install @interviewflowai/talking-avatar

Switching from D-ID Agents to Talking Avatar

Start with who runs the conversation. If D-ID's pipeline does, rebuild the agent in Voice Agents. If your backend streams its own audio into echo sessions, keep it and send that audio to a Realistic Avatars session instead.

  1. List what each D-ID agent uses: instructions, LLM, voice, knowledge documents, tools and memory.
  2. Create a Talking Avatar account ($1 of free credits), open Voice Agents, start from a template, paste in the instructions and pick a library avatar (or a custom one, $199 one time) and one of 160 voices in 15 languages.
  3. Fit the essential knowledge into the prompt (up to 20,000 characters), put larger document sets behind an HTTPS tool that searches your own index, and pass a user ID in private-link metadata so your tools can recall each caller.
  4. Swap D-ID's embed script for the agent's one-line embed, share link or iframe, and point the signed post-call webhook at whatever reads your D-ID chat exports.
  5. For echo sessions, send the same speech audio to a Realistic Avatars session as PCM16 at 8 to 48 kHz, over WebRTC or into your LiveKit room, for $0.02 a minute.

Recommendations by use case

  • A knowledge base and instant avatars from an image: Anam, from $12 a month; 2-hour calls from Growth.
  • An avatar of a real person, such as your founder: Talking Avatar custom avatar, $199 one time, in Realistic Avatars and Voice Agents.
  • Knowledge base, memory and camera perception: Tavus, from $22 a month.
  • Many managed calls at once on a self-serve plan: HeyGen LiveAvatar: no concurrency limit on paid plans.

  • A talking cartoon, mascot or illustration: LemonSlice, from $8 a month.
  • Native iOS, Android or Flutter apps: bitHuman, rendered on the device.
  • Memory across calls, and videos and agents on one balance: D-ID Agents: stay where you are.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best D-ID alternative for real-time AI agents?

It depends on what you need from D-ID. For the lowest price on a managed agent, Talking Avatar Voice Agents at $0.06 a minute, all in. For the closest match on features, Anam (knowledge base, avatars from a photo) or Tavus (knowledge base, memory, camera perception). For a face on your own agent, Talking Avatar Realistic Avatars at $0.02 a minute or Simli at about $0.01 on a plan.

What is the cheapest D-ID Agents alternative?

At 600 minutes a month, D-ID's Scale plan costs $297 billed monthly. A managed agent costs $36 on Voice Agents and about $60 on bitHuman's voice chat. Face-only APIs, where your own agent makes the audio, cost $10 on Simli Hobby and $12 on Realistic Avatars. Prices as of 30 October 2026.

Which D-ID alternatives make an avatar from a photo?

Anam makes unlimited custom avatars from an uploaded image or a text prompt on every plan. Tavus makes a Face from one photo, two minutes of video or a prompt, with 1 to 15 custom slots by plan. Simli includes 1, 5 or 25 photo avatars a month, LemonSlice animates any image, and bitHuman charges $5 per portrait avatar. HeyGen LiveAvatar added an alpha photo endpoint on 23 October 2026. Talking Avatar builds a custom avatar of a real person from a short video for $199 one time, with their consent, for both Realistic Avatars and Voice Agents.

Which D-ID alternatives have a knowledge base and memory?

Tavus has both: a knowledge base of your documents and memories of each participant. Anam has a knowledge base that searches your documents; we found no memory feature in its docs. HeyGen LiveAvatar's FULL mode grounds answers in reference links and can carry memory across sessions. Face-only APIs such as Simli leave knowledge and memory to your own agent.

Is there an alternative to D-ID's streaming avatar API?

Yes. If your backend already produces the speech, as with D-ID's echo sessions, a face-only API does the same job: Talking Avatar Realistic Avatars ($0.02 a minute, PCM16 over WebRTC or LiveKit), Simli, HeyGen LiveAvatar LITE, Anam's audio passthrough or bitHuman. Synthesia's Interactive Avatars also take your agent's audio over LiveKit, at $0.10 a minute.

What if I use D-ID to make videos, not live agents?

Then look at video generators such as Synthesia, HeyGen or Colossyan, which this page doesn't rank. If you do both, note that Synthesia's Interactive Avatars draw on the same credit balance as its video plans, much as D-ID's streaming and video share credits. Everything ranked here is for live conversation.

Is there a free D-ID alternative?

D-ID offers a 14-day trial with 10 watermarked streaming minutes. Anam's free plan gives 30 minutes a month and Tavus 20, both with short calls; Simli gives $10 of credits, then 50 free minutes a month. Talking Avatar gives new accounts $1 of credits, 16 minutes of Voice Agents or 50 minutes of Realistic Avatars, with commercial use included.

The bottom line

D-ID Agents is a capable turnkey agent: a photo avatar, a knowledge base, memory and a one-script embed. Its weak spots are price and scale, about $0.50 a streaming minute and a 600-minute ceiling on self-serve plans. Talking Avatar Voice Agents run a managed agent for $0.06 a minute with no ceiling, and custom avatars of real people cost $199 one time. Anam and Tavus keep the knowledge base and instant photo avatars for less than D-ID. If your own agent makes the audio, a face-only API costs $0.01–0.02 a minute.

Replace D-ID Agents for $0.06 a minute

Get $1 of free credits, build an agent from a prompt, pick a realistic avatar and a voice, and embed it with one line: $0.06 a minute all in, billed per second, with no 600-minute ceiling. Own agent? The face alone is $0.02 a minute.
