7 Best Tavus Alternatives in 2026, Ranked by Real Cost per Minute

By Mukul Munjal, Founder, InterviewFlowAI Pricing verified 30 October 2026

Quick take

The best Tavus alternative depends on what Tavus does for you today. If your own voice agent already makes the audio, through Echo mode or the LiveKit, Pipecat or Agora integrations, you're paying $0.24–0.37 a minute for a face, and a face-only API is the like-for-like swap: Talking Avatar Realistic Avatars at $0.02 a minute with no plan, or Simli and Spatius if your volume fills a monthly plan. If Tavus runs the whole conversation and you want to keep it that way, Anam and HeyGen LiveAvatar FULL do the same job for less, and Beyond Presence sells both a managed agent and a face-only API. Prices are as of 30 October 2026.

The 7 Tavus alternatives on this page, compared on price, limits and fit.

What is the best Tavus alternative?

If you already run a voice agent, Talking Avatar Realistic Avatars is the cheapest swap without a plan: $0.02 a minute, billed per second. To keep a managed conversation, Anam ($0.11–0.16 per extra minute, billed per second) and HeyGen LiveAvatar FULL (about $0.16–0.19) cost less than Tavus's $0.24–0.37. Simli and Spatius are cheapest when your usage fills a monthly plan. Prices as of 30 October 2026.

How we ranked these tools

We ranked real-time avatar APIs by how well each replaces Tavus: cost at 10,000 minutes a month, billing unit, limits on the plan you'd buy, and whether it runs the conversation or only the face. Prices come from each vendor's pricing page and docs, checked on 30 October 2026; we haven't run paid trials. We built Talking Avatar and rank Realistic Avatars first for teams with their own voice agent. To have the vendor run the conversation, start at number 2.

Why teams look for alternatives to Tavus

Paying full price for a face
Drive Tavus from your own agent through Echo mode, LiveKit, Pipecat or Agora and its pricing page still lists one rate, $0.24–0.37 a minute on included minutes. Tavus's docs say those modes don't work with its perception and speech recognition layers, so you pay for a pipeline you don't use.
The bill at volume
As of 30 October 2026, 10,000 minutes a month cost $2,535 on Business: $975 plus 6,000 minutes at $0.26. Enterprise discounts aren't published, and the $22 Starter plan has no overage, so minute 61 means Builder.
Minimums and calls nobody joins
Each conversation bills at least 30 seconds, then rounds to the nearest 6 seconds. It also bills from the moment it's created, even if nobody joins, and waits 5 minutes for a participant by default. Short or abandoned calls cost more than their length.
Caps on calls at once and call length
Free and Starter allow 1 conversation at a time, Builder 3, Growth 10 and Business 15, and calls stop at 5, 10, 15 and 60 minutes. A website widget that must take 10 calls at once needs Growth at $397, whatever its minutes.

What to look for in an alternative

Face only or full agent
If your own agent already drives Tavus, a face-only API is the like-for-like swap. If Tavus's LLM and voice run the conversation, compare managed agents.
Cost at your real volume
Price the cheapest plan that covers your monthly minutes, plus overage. A low per-minute rate on a plan you don't fill isn't low. Anam's included minutes expire each month; Simli's roll over up to twice the plan.
Billing unit and minimums
Per second, in 5- or 6-second steps, or rounded up to the minute: on short calls the rounding changes the real price. Check too whether a session bills from creation or from when the user joins.

  6. 6. Best for avatars rendered on the device

Realistic Avatars and Open Source

The two versions of Talking Avatar

Talking Avatar comes in two separate versions. Talking Avatar Realistic Avatars is a hosted, paid service of ready-made photorealistic avatars, rendered on our servers and streamed to your page over WebRTC or into your LiveKit room, for $0.02 a minute. Talking Avatar Open Source is a free, MIT-licensed 3D talking avatar for the browser: it renders your own 3D .glb avatar and animates its face from any audio (lip sync from a 1 MB model, plus natural blinks and brows), with no server, account or API key, free for commercial and noncommercial use. Both are driven by your own voice agent: OpenAI Realtime, LiveKit, Pipecat or any TTS. No voice agent yet? Talking Avatar Voice Agents run the whole conversation on a realistic avatar, with no code, for $0.06 a minute.

Talking Avatar Realistic Avatars

Switching from Tavus to Talking Avatar Realistic Avatars

The work depends on who runs the conversation today. If your agent already makes the audio, only the face changes; if Tavus's pipeline runs it, move the prompt, LLM and voice first.

  1. Check how your Tavus PALs run. If they use Echo mode or the LiveKit, Pipecat or Agora integration, skip to step 3.
  2. Move the prompt, LLM and voice to your own stack (OpenAI Realtime, LiveKit Agents, Pipecat or an LLM plus TTS), or rebuild them in Voice Agents for $0.06 a minute.
  3. Create a Talking Avatar Realistic Avatars account (it comes with $1 of free credits), create an API key and pick a ready-made avatar, or order a custom avatar of a real person ($199 one time, with their consent).
  4. Send your agent's audio to the avatar session over WebRTC or into your LiveKit room, then remove Tavus conversation creation from your server.
  5. Budget by minutes, not plans: $0.02 a minute, per second, with unlimited sessions at once and each up to 3 hours.

Recommendations by use case

  • You run your own voice agent, or use Tavus through LiveKit, Pipecat or Echo mode, and want no plan: Talking Avatar Realistic Avatars.
  • A managed persona like Tavus's for about half the per-minute price: Anam, on Growth or above for 2-hour calls.
  • Many managed (FULL mode) calls at once on a paid plan: HeyGen LiveAvatar (no concurrency limit on Essential or Business).
  • A choice of managed agent or face-only API, billed in euros: Beyond Presence.
  • Lowest cost at steady volume: Simli for streamed video, Spatius for rendering on the device.
  • A no-code agent with a knowledge base and memory: D-ID Agents.
  • No voice agent and no developers; a web link or embed is enough: Talking Avatar Voice Agents, $0.06 a minute all in.
  • Camera perception with Raven-1, Faces from a photo or prompt, or SOC 2 and HIPAA with a BAA: Stay with Tavus.

Frequently asked questions

What is the cheapest Tavus alternative?

At 10,000 minutes a month, Spatius ($89.50 on Builder plus overage, beta pricing) and Simli ($91.75 on Pro plus overage) cost least; both prices are for a face driven by your own agent, on a monthly plan. Talking Avatar Realistic Avatars costs $200 with no plan or minimum. Among managed agents, Anam ($1,219) and HeyGen LiveAvatar FULL (about $1,734) undercut Tavus Business at $2,535. Prices as of 30 October 2026.

Is there an open-source Tavus alternative?

Not as one package, but you can assemble one. An open-source agent framework such as Pipecat or LiveKit Agents runs the conversation, and MuseTalk (MIT code, weights usable commercially) re-renders a 256×256 face region from audio in real time, at 30 fps or more on an NVIDIA Tesla V100. Talking Avatar Open Source is a free MIT 3D avatar for the browser with a 1 MB model that animates your own .glb's mouth, blinks and brows; it isn't photoreal.

Which Tavus alternatives run the conversation for you?

Anam, HeyGen LiveAvatar in FULL mode, Beyond Presence's Conversational Video Agents, Simli Auto and D-ID Agents run speech recognition, an LLM and a voice, as Tavus does. Talking Avatar Voice Agents do the same without code for $0.06 a minute. Talking Avatar Realistic Avatars, Spatius, LiveAvatar LITE, Beyond Presence speech-to-video and Anam's audio passthrough render the face from your own agent.

Which Tavus alternatives allow more calls at once?

Tavus tops out at 15 conversations at once on Business; more needs Enterprise. HeyGen LiveAvatar has no concurrency limit on its $99 and $475 plans. Simli Scale ($249) and Beyond Presence Scale (€349) allow 50, Spatius Scale ($299) 40, and Anam Professional ($999) 10. Talking Avatar Realistic Avatars runs unlimited sessions at once at no extra cost, at the same $0.02 a minute.

Which Tavus alternative works with cartoon or non-human characters?

Tavus Faces can be cartoon or anime humans but not animals, mascots or other non-human figures, and Simli excludes those too. LemonSlice animates any single image, including illustrations, cartoons and mascots, from $8 a month (41 minutes, then $0.22 a minute); its free tier has no API access. For a 3D character you already have, Talking Avatar Open Source animates any .glb with the 15 Oculus viseme morph targets, free.

What if I use Tavus for pre-recorded videos, not live calls?

This list covers live conversation (Tavus CVI). Tavus also sells video generation, and for that the comparison is with video generators such as HeyGen or Synthesia, which this page doesn't rank. If you need both, check whether the vendor prices its real-time product separately, as HeyGen does with LiveAvatar.

The bottom line

Tavus is the most complete managed conversation on this list, with camera perception, its own turn-taking model and Faces made from a photo, a video or a prompt. It's also one of the pricier ways to buy a minute: $2,535 for 10,000 on Business. If your agent already makes the audio, you're paying Tavus rates for a face; Talking Avatar Realistic Avatars streams one for $0.02 a minute, billed per second. To keep the conversation managed for less, try Anam first, then HeyGen LiveAvatar.

Swap the face, keep your voice agent

Get $1 of free credits (50 minutes), send your agent's audio to a realistic avatar and pay $0.02 a minute, billed per second, with no plan or concurrency tier. No agent yet? Voice Agents cost $0.06 a minute.
