Anam AI in 2026: Pricing, Plan Limits and When to Choose It

By Mukul Munjal, Founder, InterviewFlowAI Pricing verified 30 October 2026

Anam AI is a real-time avatar API. As of 30 October 2026 its plans cost $12 to $999 a month for 50 to 8,000 minutes, then $0.11–0.16 a minute, billed per second, and calls stop at 10 minutes below the $299 Growth plan. The price is the same when your own voice agent drives the face. Talking Avatar Realistic Avatars renders that face for $0.02 a minute, with no plan.

60-second comparison

The decision at a glance

Anam charges $12 to $999 a month for 50 to 8,000 minutes, then $0.11–0.16 a minute, billed per second (as of 30 October 2026), whether Anam runs the whole persona or only renders the face from your agent's audio. Talking Avatar Realistic Avatars gives the agent you already run a face for $0.02 a minute, with no plan, no concurrency tiers and sessions of up to 3 hours; Voice Agents run the whole conversation for $0.06. Anam adds avatars you make yourself from a photo or prompt, a knowledge base, meeting bots and portrait video. For a face on an agent you already run, its extra minutes cost 5.5 to 8 times our rate.

Choose Talking Avatar Realistic Avatars if…

  • You already run a voice agent and want its face for $0.02 a minute, not Anam's $0.11–0.16 per extra minute.
  • Your calls run past 10 minutes and you'd rather not buy Growth at $299 for that: sessions run up to 3 hours.
  • You need more than 10 calls at once without an Enterprise contract: there are no concurrency tiers.
  • Your traffic is uneven, and prepaid credits suit you better than monthly minutes that expire.
  • Volume is high: enterprise and high-volume contracts go as low as $0.005 a minute, against Anam Enterprise from $0.04.
  • You have no agent yet: Voice Agents cost $0.06 a minute with the LLM, speech and voice included, shared as a link or embed.

Choose Anam if…

  • You want to make unlimited avatars yourself from a photo or a text prompt, with voice cloning on every plan.
  • You want a managed persona with a knowledge base over your documents and 70+ languages.
  • You need portrait video for a phone-shaped widget.
  • Your persona has to join Google Meet, Zoom or Microsoft Teams calls through Anam's Meetings API.
  • Your buyers ask for a SOC 2 Type II report, HIPAA, zero data retention or data residency.

How much does Anam AI cost?

As of 30 October 2026, Anam sells five self-serve plans, billed monthly: Free (30 minutes), Starter at $12 (50), Explorer at $49 (250), Growth at $299 (2,000) and Professional at $999 (8,000). Divide price by minutes and an included minute costs $0.24 on Starter, $0.196 on Explorer, $0.15 on Growth and $0.125 on Professional. Extra minutes cost $0.16, $0.14, $0.12 and $0.11 on those plans. Free has no overage, and Enterprise starts at $0.04. Usage is metered per second from session start to session end, and silence or an idle avatar doesn't pause it, so close sessions you no longer need. Unused minutes expire at the end of each billing period, paid plans can't be paused, and the pricing page shows no annual prices. Anam publishes its own break-points: Explorer beats Starter above about 500 minutes a month, Growth beats Explorer above about 2,250, and Professional beats Growth above about 7,800.

Which Anam plan do you need? Call length decides

Volume alone picks the wrong plan. Anam stops conversations at 3 minutes on Free, 5 on Starter and 10 on Explorer; Growth and above allow 2 hours. It also caps simultaneous sessions at 1, 1, 3, 5 and 10 from Free to Professional, shared by every website in your organization, with 100 or more only on Enterprise. Anam suggests about one simultaneous session per 200 daily active users as a starting point. So a screening interviewer or tutor with 30-minute sessions needs Growth at $299 even if it uses 300 minutes a month, which works out to about $1 per minute used. A support widget with short calls can stay on Explorer, as long as no more than 3 people talk at once. Realistic Avatars has no plan to choose: sessions run up to 3 hours, parallel sessions cost the same, and 300 minutes cost $6.

Anam with your own voice agent: same price, face only

Anam also works face-only. With audio passthrough, your agent or TTS sends 16-bit PCM audio (mono; Anam processes it at 24 kHz) and Anam renders the lip-synced face, with its own speech recognition, LLM and voice switched off. There's a LiveKit plugin, an official Pipecat plugin maintained by Anam, Agora and VideoSDK integrations, and a server-side ElevenLabs Agents setup. The price doesn't change. Anam's billing docs say passthrough "does not by itself establish a discount", and your LLM and TTS providers bill you on top, so $0.11–0.16 per extra minute buys the face alone. That's the job Talking Avatar Realistic Avatars does for $0.02 a minute: it takes PCM16 at 8 to 48 kHz and plays over WebRTC in your page or joins your LiveKit room. If you stay on Anam, note that it waits for 480 ms of audio at the start of each sequence before it renders frames, so forward TTS chunks as they arrive.

What 1,000 and 10,000 minutes a month cost

At 1,000 minutes a month with calls under 10 minutes, Anam's cheapest option is Explorer: $49 plus 750 extra minutes at $0.14, or $154. With longer calls it's Growth at $299. The same minutes cost $20 on Realistic Avatars, or $60 on Talking Avatar Voice Agents, which include the LLM, speech recognition and voice. At 10,000 minutes, Professional costs $999 plus 2,000 minutes at $0.11, or $1,219; Growth plus overage would be $1,259. Realistic Avatars costs $200 and Voice Agents $600. Two caveats keep this fair. The Realistic Avatars figure is the face for the agent you already run, while Anam's managed persona includes speech recognition, the LLM and voice. And past the self-serve plans both sides quote: Anam Enterprise starts at $0.04 a minute, and our enterprise and high-volume contracts go as low as $0.005.

What you get from Anam: avatars and speed

Anam's current model, Cara-4.1 Express, launched on 20 October 2026 and is the one its docs recommend for new integrations, and it renders in landscape or portrait. Custom avatars are unlimited on every plan, made from an uploaded image or a text prompt, and voice cloning comes with every plan too. Our custom avatar of a real person, made from a short video with their consent, costs $199 once and works in the API and in Voice Agents. Director Notes change how the avatar delivers a line mid-conversation. On speed, Anam's homepage reports a 1.24 s median reply and a 1.42 s median connection time, measured with its full pipeline. Our figure measures something narrower: the avatar starts speaking less than 250 ms after your agent's audio reaches our servers. The two numbers don't measure the same thing, so test both with your own agent.

No voice agent yet? Anam's persona vs Voice Agents

Without an agent of your own, compare Anam's managed persona with Talking Avatar Voice Agents, not with the API. Both run speech recognition, the LLM and the voice for one per-minute price. Voice Agents cost $0.06 a minute with no plan, calls up to 60 minutes, 160 voices in 15 languages and up to 20 tools that call your URLs, shared as a link or embedded with one line. Anam's persona adds a knowledge base that searches your documents, client, webhook and system tools, your choice of LLM, a Meetings API that sends the persona into Google Meet, Zoom or Teams, and an Avatar Videos API that turns a script into an MP4. With Voice Agents, essential knowledge goes in the prompt (up to 20,000 characters) or behind a tool that searches your own index, and 1,000 minutes cost $60 instead of $154–299.

When to choose Anam

Where Anam is the better fit

Anam is the better pick when you want its extras. Its persona speaks more than 70 languages, searches your documents through a knowledge base and calls tools, and its Meetings API sends the persona into Google Meet, Zoom and Microsoft Teams calls. You can make unlimited avatars yourself on every plan, from an uploaded image or a text prompt, with voice cloning included (our custom avatar of a real person costs $199 once), and Cara-4.1 Express can render in portrait for a phone-shaped layout. Anam's site says it has a SOC 2 Type II report and HIPAA compliance, and Enterprise adds zero data retention, region selection and an uptime SLA. If you need any of that, Anam is the one to pick.

Switching from Anam

If your agent already drives Anam through audio passthrough, the LiveKit plugin, Pipecat or ElevenLabs Agents, only the face changes. If Anam's persona runs the conversation, move that first, to your own stack or to Voice Agents.

  1. Check how each Anam persona runs. If your own agent makes the audio, skip to step 3.
  2. Move the persona's prompt, LLM and voice to OpenAI Realtime, LiveKit Agents, Pipecat or an LLM plus TTS, or rebuild it in Voice Agents. Put essential knowledge in the prompt (up to 20,000 characters) or behind a tool that searches your own index.
  3. Create a Talking Avatar Realistic Avatars account ($1 of free credits), create an API key and pick a ready-made avatar, or order a custom one for $199, one time, with the presenter's consent.
  4. Send the same 16-bit PCM audio you pass to Anam's sendAudioChunk() to the avatar session, over WebRTC or into your LiveKit room, and remove Anam session tokens from your server.
  5. Resize the player for 16:9 if you used portrait output, then run both on a slice of traffic and compare cost per conversation.
  6. Cancel Anam near the end of a billing period: paid plans can't be paused, payments aren't refunded, and unused minutes don't carry over.

Methodology

How we evaluated this comparison

Pricing and features come from each vendor's own website, documentation or source code, checked in October 2026 and dated on this page. Where a vendor doesn't publish something, we say so rather than guess. We haven't run paid trials of every product. We built Talking Avatar, so we name what each competitor does better and who should choose it instead.

Frequently asked questions

What is Anam AI?

Anam (Anam Labs) makes real-time interactive avatars: photoreal faces on its Cara models that talk with users over WebRTC. A persona can run Anam's own speech recognition, LLM and voice with a knowledge base and tools, or render the face from your own agent's audio through audio passthrough. The current model, Cara-4.1 Express, launched on 20 October 2026 and renders 1152×768 or 768×1152.

How much does Anam AI cost per minute?

As of 30 October 2026, included minutes cost $0.24 on Starter ($12 for 50), $0.196 on Explorer ($49 for 250), $0.15 on Growth ($299 for 2,000) and $0.125 on Professional ($999 for 8,000). Extra minutes cost $0.16, $0.14, $0.12 or $0.11, and Enterprise starts at $0.04. Usage is billed per second, and included minutes expire each month.

Is Anam AI free?

Anam has a Free plan with 30 minutes a month, one session at a time, 3-minute conversations and an embed watermark. It isn't licensed for commercial use and has no overage, so a live product needs Starter at $12 or above. Talking Avatar Realistic Avatars gives new accounts $1 of free credits (50 minutes) with commercial use included, and the live demo gives a free 2-minute call with no sign-up.

Is Anam cheaper if I bring my own LLM or voice agent?

No. Audio passthrough and the LiveKit, Pipecat and ElevenLabs integrations bill the same session minutes as Anam's managed persona. Anam's billing docs say passthrough doesn't by itself establish a discount, and your LLM and TTS providers charge you separately. If your agent already makes the audio, you're paying $0.11–0.16 per extra minute for the face.

Anam vs Tavus: which costs less?

Anam, at every published volume. 1,000 minutes cost $154 on Anam Explorer (10-minute calls) or $299 on Growth, against $347.75 on Tavus Builder. 10,000 minutes cost $1,219 on Anam Professional and $2,535 on Tavus Business. Anam bills per second; Tavus bills at least 30 seconds per call. Tavus adds camera perception and 1080p. Prices as of 30 October 2026.

How fast is Anam AI?

Anam's homepage reports a 1.24 s median reply and a 1.42 s median connection time, measured with its full pipeline in its own benchmark. With audio passthrough, its docs say it waits for 480 ms of audio at the start of each sequence before rendering. We publish a narrower figure: our avatar starts speaking less than 250 ms after your agent's audio reaches it.

What's a cheaper alternative to Anam?

For a face on your own agent, Talking Avatar Realistic Avatars costs $0.02 a minute with no plan: $200 for 10,000 minutes against $1,219 on Anam Professional. Simli and Spatius cost less still if your volume fills one of their monthly plans. For a managed persona, Voice Agents cost $0.06 a minute. Our list of Anam alternatives compares seven options.
